Our Blueway Air Conditioner

We purchased a very reasonably priced Blueway Split Inverter Air Conditioner for our living room from Harvey Norman. The Air Conditioner is a Blueway AS24-VR with 6000watt cooling capacity (we don’t really care about the heating up here in the tropics, but the air conditioner also has 8000watt heating capacity).

Blueway Split Inverter Air Conditioner

As you can see in the photo the head unit of the AS24-VR is quite large. It almost didn’t fit between the ceiling and the window, which was a problem we hadn’t planned for in purchasing an air conditioner.

The external compressor unit of the Blueway air conditioner I have found to be very quiet, but like the head unit the compressor unit is quite large.

The Blueway Air Conditioner does an adequate job at cooling our main living area, but given the odd shape of the room I don’t think any other air conditioning brand would do any better. The swing mechanism on the head unit doesn’t have much range, so to get it to blow straight out into the overhead fan I need to manually adjust the swing mechanism.

The air conditioning installation technician didn’t have much bad to say about the units. He reckons that they run pretty well and he hasn’t noticed any difference in reliability over most of the other better known brands. This is pretty good considering that the Blueway air conditioner was close to half the price of some of the better known brands.

Being in Townsville I haven’t really had any need to use the heater function, but like I said, it’s there if you want it.

Update:

Here is the list of Blueway Air Conditioner Error Codes.

Sorry Katrina, I’m not sure who the local service centre is for the Blueway Air Conditioners. You would have to try your luck with their main office unfortunately and see what you can find.

I rang Blueway after not hearing anything back from them about the remote. I was pleasant and asked what was happening with this unit. I had never spoken to the guy before and and suprized when he said he would drop me a unit that arvo. It happened and he also checked the unit out to see if it was working OK. There was no problems. I dragged him to my PC see show him the history of my communications with Blueway. He claimed to be a owner or manager and was appalled with the response. He gave me a mobile number for him directly. 0410 360 699. He told me he was going to do this but his phone rang and he was talking and left. I was suprized when he rang me 10 mins later to apologise for giving me his number and gave it to me. He seems like a pretty up front fellow. Try him to help you with your issues. post and advise how you got on, I am curious!!!

don’t buy a blueway they are crap units with crap service ,I will certainly pay the extra next time for a more well known brand of a/c ,nothing but trouble from day one .

Glad to see some positive remarks about
    Blueway, NOT very many.
4th March 09 was when I commented about our Aircon and to date it is still not fixed!
We have had an electrician ring us only to tell us he is based in Townville and does not come to Bowen (which is a two hour drive).
I will not be recommending these Air cons at all.

    Hi all
The only thing you could use a Blue way AC for would be a boat anchor. Parts are near impossible to find.
    Good Luck

We bought a home three years ago with a Blueway split system already installed. Within the first year it had broken down. There was not one company in our area who would service the machine due to poor track record from Blueway. After finding a copy of the purchase receipt from Harvey Norman I spent weeks following up with Blueway in Sydney (02) 9729 3688 to repair under warranty. Eventually they did. There is a mobile gang of technicians who drive around the country repairing these things. You just have to be patient. Guess what, each year we have had the same problem but Blueway are still agreeable to do the repairs and replacement parts under warranty. Wonder how long this arrangement will last? My recommendation – the small price you pay for the unit does not make up for the lack of reliability and poor quality of the product!!!!!

    Billy,
Glad to hear you have had a good run. I am in a rented house with 2 blue way reverse cycle split system air con and going by all this feed back I am sure realestate and landlord will give up relativly quickly and I will be left we 2 big boxes on the wall. Yeah for me.

Thanks all for the info but I will pass on to realestate to see what they can do.

    Hi Everyone

It would seem that we have all been having trouble with our “BLUEWAY”. The model number that we have in our office is: BCR-70
GW. But I have just found out how to get the heater to work on it, so I thought I would share my discovery.

By using the MODE button you need to make sure that the SUN symbol is in the top left hand box, then it’s best to set it on 31 to get things warmed up, it will take about 5 minutes before it starts oscilating and then you will be set.

    Good luck.

PS: My office is lovely and warm now, and its about 10 degrees outside

Please people spend just a little extra on air conditioners (or anything else) to try & get some quality. Indeed, you get what you pay for.
How ugly is that thing hanging on the wall ???….LOL

  11. Bill Hutchison Post author

Thanks Estell. I was never able to get the heater working, but I never tried for more than about 10-seconds since we never really needed the heat in Townsville.

  12. Bill Hutchison Post author

The Blue Way Air conditioner head might be big and ugly, but it’s certainly a nice thing to see when it’s in the 30s and hovering around 90% humidity.

I think that LG make some of the nicest looking air conditioner heads that I’ve seen. Some of them, almost, look like pieces of art.

Responding to BH July 1st 2009

Unfortunitley for us when we brought the house the Blueway aircon units were already installed into the house, had we of known this we would of gone for a more reputable brand like LG.

It is now the 3rd of July 2009, and we had still had no one come to fix the Blueway aircon in our main room, and we brought the house Dec 2007!

I have a problem with my BLR-70GW that was pre-installed when I recently purchased a house. The heating function is incredibly intermittant although it does work twice a day for about 5 minutes! Contacting the Blueway service agents on (02)96323088 was pleasant enough with the gentleman offering some troubleshooting advice over the phone. However the unit is indeed still not repaired and not operating. I will be sure to keep posting a progress report of how things pan out. Currently awaiting a call back. 6th July 2009.

  20. Margaret

I am yet to instal a Blueway ASW-H24B4. If anyone has a manual or can advise where to get one. I would also like to know if the a/c will still work without the remote control?

Called a few places got a name WONG mobile# 0408728333 says he is the only one in QLD able to fix it? based in Brisbane more intrested in if was going to pay cash when he comes rather than what the hell is wrong with this stupid thing.

  22. mary

  23. Sue

Hi , is anyone throwing their B/W split system out and wants to sell a part before they do. A nasty and very determined rat has eaten through the insulated hose that takes all the condensation away which leaves me with water runnung down the wall inside. Have tried Blueway to no avail and no one else wants to deal with it. Just thought on the off chance someone might be about to throw one away. Am not at the house at the moment so don’t have the model number but can get it soon if needed. Thanks for anyones help.

  24. Cheryl

    Hi Sue,

Don’t worry about getting a replacement part, cause it’ll cost you around $88. I cut some length off an old garden variety hose and split it down the middle and taped the hose with electrical tape and bob’s your uncle it works. Works better than when it was New! As for repair idiots the only guys qualified to repair the blasted units are from Sydney. And getting them to your door will cost you $88 before you even get started.

    Good Luck!

  25. Cheryl

    Hi Margaret,

No, the units don’t work without the remotes. I replaced my remote for $100 from the Sydney main mob.

  26. Sue

    Hi Cheryl,
Thanks heaps for your advise, my better half loved your solution and has already started work on it. Thanks again, take care and have a great Xmas.

  27. Alan

They do prefer that you pay cash, however I got them to accept credit card on one occasion and internet banking on the other. Mind you it takes almost forever for them to reply if sending them an email.

  30. Paulette Scoble

    In regards to Cheryl & Alan;
Cheryl the numbers you have listed are correct however like our air con unit it took 2 and a half years to get it fixed the unit was brand new and it was already installed in the home we brought in Bowen.
I finally had enough and ended up going thru fair trading here in Qld and within two weeks the air con was fixed.
Alan you would be better off going thru fair trading as well.

  31. Alan

    Paulette & Cheryl,
Thanks for the advice / help. I contacted Fortuna (Joe) by email(on weekend) & by phone today. Email response came back yesterday which I was pretty chuffed about as I now have evidence that they have acknowledged notification of problems with my A/C while it is still under warranty. I am prepared to wait it out until the end of this week & if no further response received I will then definitely seeking assistance from the Office of Fair Trading (Qld)
Will keep posting of (hopefully) my success.
    Thanks again – Alan

I got a Blueway aircon from a friend but it has been the gift that keeps on stuffing up. It didn’t work when it was installed and the circuit board needed to be changed. Now it is showing an e4 error message. Crap! If anyone has the BLR-70W manual, could u please let me know as I would appreciate a copy.

  34. Liz

I am at wits end. Last summer called blueway to fix problem and it took 15 weeks for them to try and fix the thing. THEN the repair guy says “I wont fix all the problems as they are crap! GREAT!!! this summer no ac, liuve in SA and have had heat waves. Have called and called to no avail…I am ready to take the AC and dump it on harvey normans door

  35. Liz

I received a parcel today, spare parts from Blueway. !!! what do I do with them?? Do I fix it??? I would probably do a better job that the setvice guy last year!!!!!!!! Called them again ( must look at my telephone acct. for all the STD calls). They said they will get in contact with me tonight.. SURE!!! I have parts and no repair man!!!! Called Consumer Affairs who said to call Harvey Norman.. What a wasted exercise!!! Said it was up to Blue way….. any ideas as to what to do????

  36. Paulette Scoble

    Liz;
In regards to the above, yes I went thru the Office of fair trading, firstly you have to write a letter of complaint to Blueway, give them a time frame in which to answer your letter, in your letter you need to state evrything from day one; ie 1/1/08 brought AC from Harvey
10/1/08 Installed by tech from HN @ 11.00am
10/01/08 instalation done and turn on @ 12.30pm nothing!!!, and so on.
Once the time frame is up then you can go online and fill out everything thats required submit the letter of complaint too and someone from FT will ring you and let you know that they have received your complaint and what you would like them to do.
Those are the steps I had to go thru, so to save time do your letter, once the time frame is up then get on to FT.
After I had sent my letter of complaint and gotten onto FT, two weeks after lodgement my AC was fixed.

  37. Property Manager

I hope you never have a need to try to use the warrenty, because the service is shocking. No response to email or phone calls or messages left over a three week period!
Christine handles it and is also supposedly the Owner/Boss and is never available or the above, so ….

  38. Vikki

I too have had great difficulty since 12/1/10 to have even a call back. I purchased two units thru Harvey Norman and warranty just about up, both units not working. Had to in the end pay for an independent serviceman to fix the smaller unit so we could get some relief from heat and am still waiting from 12/1/10 after several phone calls, emails and faxes to Christine at Blueway. To date still no response.

  39. Cherie

Had 3 installedsome years ago in Brisbane, 2 never worked from day 1, eventually had them replace but the replaecments were noisy and leaked, harveys did replace the other with an updated version that did work.

this time got a Dakin properly installed, great from day one, you get what you pay for ( I know)

  41. Grace

hey guys, does anyone know a brand of universal remote that DEFINATELY works on Blueway air cons? I’ve bought a universal remote and it didn’t work.

    Cheers.

  42. Melanie

I was wondering if anyone has had the E1 error. We have had 2 air conditioners for over 5years. One is just starting to play up, now that summer is here. I don’t have the manual, and the number I have for Blueway is constantly ringing with no answer. Please help ๐Ÿ™

  43. Suzanne

We have a blueway and very unreliable…it sometimes cools for 2 hours (or so) then just blows air. We have numerable mechanics to it last summer but like another owner it doesn’t always misbehave when the mechanic comes. I regret purchasing Blueway, it is noisy and extremely unrelaible. Of course it fails in 40 degree days!!!

  44. haley bailey

hi we are on the search for a blueway manual for BLR 70 W, we would be very grateful for even a photocopy. we are getting this silly e4 message aswell. it seems if you fiddle with it and swear at it for a couple of days it might work fine. it had been working fine for about 3 months (like antarctica) we had a blackout today and now e4 is back. i am willing to pay for any hassel it may cause to get a photocopy. thanks

  45. Brad

    Hi,

I have a kriesler ZH/Lw-03 airconditioner, apparently they are the same as the blue way? Anyway, it has started showing E3 error and wont start? Can anybody help? Please!?
