Make a Wall into a Chalk Board – for the Kids

When I first opened up Pigeon Point Project: Writing on the walls… in my RSS reader my response was “wow”. Then I started to think about which wall of our house I could put up a chalk board for the kids to use?

Check out the article to see what photos of I am talking about, but they have made one wall into a massive chalk board for their kid to use. Of course if you believe the article then the kid did it…

Unfortunately I came to the conclusion that I don’t have an interior wall to use for as a chalk board for the kids, but the idea is still pretty cool.

Contractor Pages Updated with our Townsville Builder details

I’ve finally updated the Townsville Contactors page with the name and details of our Townsville Builder – Glenn Sexton Pty Ltd.

I’ve also added some more details about the company who did our House Lifting and Restumping – Northern House Raising.

We took our time in naming who our Townsville Builder was because we had such bad experiences with our previous two builders.

We have heard from other contractors here in Townsville that our first builder might be going to jail for fraud and our second builder might be getting sued for dodgy and shonky work. Our success with our newest builder has been an entirely different and a very positive experience.

Choosing our Internal Staircase

We have been looking at what kind of internal staircase to build into our house. The new internal stairs will be put in where our current office is and the will need to be a curved staircase with a landing in the middle. The space that we have for the staircase is actually quite small, so the stairs will need to be narrow.

We were considering two types of of staircases; an enclosed staircase or an open staircase. There were pros and cons for both: Continue Reading →

Townsville Builder Shut Down – Mybelle Homes

In the midst of a huge shortage of housing in Townsville one of Townsville’s builders has been shut down because of dodgy business practices.

Mybelle Homes has been shut down last week by the Queensland Building Services Authority (BSA) because of concerns about financial and other harm coming to their customers, employees, subcontractors and suppliers.

This week the Queensland BSA went further and has banned the directors of Mybelle Homes from building homes in Queensland for the next five years. Because of the way builders licenses work in Australia they will probably not be able to get licences in any other Australian state during that time as well.

There were reported delays of up to a year with some of the building work begun by Mybelle Homes. They had building projects in Greenview Estate, Crestbrook, Bushland Beach and Kalynda Chase here in Townsville. Many of these projects are not left half completed, or not yet started. The half completed or not yet started homes should be covered under BSA insurance, but the unfortunate home builders / owners will now be stuck with even more delays in waiting for their houses to be built.
